Want to stop cheating but don’t know how? There are times in life when we all need a little help to do the things we know are right. There is no shame and that and so much can be gained by taking the time now to do the right thing. Unfortunately there aren’t a lot of “stop cheating” support groups or 12-step programs. In fact, there has only been a small amount of attention in recent years given to sexual addiction and recovery. So, what are your options?
Sexual Addiction Treatment Programs
Because of growing awareness in recent years and a few prominent people speaking up to make the public aware of sexual addiction there have been a few treatment programs designed to address this specific issue. If you have tried and failed to stop cheating or keep falling back into the same self-destructive patterns of cheating, viewing pornography, and participating in cyber sex then this might be a viable and much needed option for you.
Individual and Marriage Counseling
Not everyone needs a treatment program. Some people just need to really dig down deep and get to the heart of the problem. If you find out why you keep cheating then you will have a great amount of power in dealing with it and preventing it from happening again. Counseling can help you dig down through the lies you tell yourself and others concerning why you cheat. Counseling for you alone is a great idea but it’s also a good idea for you to have counseling as a couple so that you can both work through some of these breakthroughs together and so that your wife can learn to identify the signs of impending affairs and stop them in their tracks.
Eliminate the Opportunities for Cheating
One key thing to keep in mind is that people in healthy marriages just don’t go around cheating on their husbands and wives. There is something broken in the marriage that needs to be fixed. It is going to take you and your wife working together to make things right. One place to begin is by eliminating the opportunities (to whatever extent is possible) for you to cheat. Start doing things together and account for your time and your whereabouts when you aren’t together. You’ll be surprised at how much of an impact this simple time management issue will have on your ability to find time to woo other women much less carry on affairs.
